Week 3 Preview: Win streak?

Hi everyone,

We play at 7:20 at Riverside this Wednesday. We are taking on The Pistachios, who are 0-1-1. I don't think we have ever played them and have nothing clever to say otherwise. Hope to see you there.

Week 2 Recap: Walk-off!

The celebration ensues after a walk-off 3-2 win for Blue on Wednesday night.

Well, our second game was truly a wild ride of comebacks, blown leads and more comebacks but it ended the right way: a win (which we all know is what kickball is all about).

The rain has the book a little soaked, but here are some highlights I can remember/decipher:

Our first play on defense we had a small collision, but Lindsay still got a sick out. The Brew Crew did still score a run in the first, but the defense settled in from there included three (maybe more outfield assists from Jared!). Unfortunately, the offense could not get going, as we did not even get a hit until Jared led off the third inning with a single.

The fourth inning though was a blue break through! Allie and Andrew got back-to-back hits then Becca moved them over to second and third to set up a great bunt by Angie which had them so flustered they made a throwing error and we took a 2-1 lead.

After even more sick lockdown defense we took our lead into the seventh, but they managed to plate a run for a tie.

That was no trouble though because we had the hammer (esoteric baseball turn for "last-ups")!

Becca had a sick kick over their guys trying to play the bunt, then moved from first to third on Angie's gem. That set up a sac fly chance for Chad, but he just drilled it through the left side of the infield for the game winner!

After that the whole team went to Don't Know and watched the Orioles beat the Red Sox! Hooray!

Another Game 2 Preview: Rivalry Rekindled

Based on the current forecast, it does not seem too likely that we will play tonight, but then again I thought the same thing about softball games on Tuesday and it turned out to be a beautiful night so who knows?

Should we get to play, we will take on our old rivals the Brew Crew, who haven't faced in about two years since we all hung out at Taps that one time. We are 1-1 life time against them, including a game in which I permanently scarred my hip sliding at Riverside (I'll show it for $1 a peek!)

Since we last met, their guys have apparently started a semi-successful racing team, while the girls have begun a street-team marketing club on the side for Coffee Mate. Let's hope all this adrenaline and caffeine does not give them super strength.

Revolt against the Rain ... and Go Blue!

Game 2 Preview: Break that Tie

We are scheduled to play at 7:20 at Riverside this Wednesday against Drunk Again and Looking to Score.

Last year we led against them almost the whole game before allowing a late run to score and finishing with a 4-4 tie.

This time I'm sure we will have it though. And look for a new pitcher! Exciting!

Game 1 Recap: A great first inning

Dejected WJBO players answer media questions after the loss.

The first week of kickball had several great moments, even if one of them wasn't a cooler-dumping in honor of victory. At least we did our best to empty the cooler of the full beers inside.

Highlights of the 9-3 loss are below.

Play of the day: Chad made an awesome catch off a deflected ball for a big out. It looked something like this.

Streak alive: Hilary was the birthday girl and led off the game with a single to keep her consecutive games reaching base streak alive. She was not as impressed with the streak after the game, but we still went to Don't Know afterward to celebrate the occasion.

Fast start: Hilary, Becca and Jim all reached base to start the game before Chad kicked a bases-clearing triple. 3-0 lead after the first inning. Unfortunately, our score kind of looked like the Orioles the rest of the night.

Bases jammed: We came close to scoring several times but left two runners on twice and the bases loaded in two other innings. So frustrating.

Dynamite Debut: Lisa went a perfect three-for-three at the plate in her first game in blue. Becca also had a perfect night at the plate, going four-for-four. A small town in Delaware has renamed itself in honor of the performances.

Classic closer: Jim did another Charlie Sheen impression, pitching a perfect seventh inning out of the bullpen. Our fashionista fans went wild.

No coaching changes: Despite the lack of offense, head coach Nate made it clear assistant coach Allie will be around as long as he is. Base coach jobs remain open though.
