Game 4 Review: Sweet win!

It was great night to be in blue two Wednesdays ago, as We Just Blue Ourselves evened up their record at 2-2 with an 8-1 trouncing of The Lost Tribe. I can't quite read all my notes or remember exactly what happened but here are some highlights:

Good eyes: Lisa had a couple line-huggers at third and was disciplined enough not to pick the ball up, instead letting it roll foul for outs.

More good eyes: Kim took a ball and the third basemen was like "this is kickball, kick it!" Then she kicked the ball right at him so hard and he couldn't catch it.

Nice debut: Erwin went 3 for 3 in his first game with us this year, scoring two runs and knocking in another!

More perfection: Angie and Andrew both went 2 for 2, Andrew notching 2 RKI!

Great work everyone.

Game 4 Preview: A good sign

Game time is 8:10 tonight, same field as always. We are playing The Lost Tribe, who is also 1-2. They beat the team we lost to last week, but they also lost to the team that we beat 10-1 so who knows? We did get a good sign this week, the team's namesake show is coming back.

Game 3 Recap: Missed Opportunity

Nate starts breaking things after stranding more runners on base.

Well, it was a 7-3 lost to The Pistachios, after failing to convert some chances (we left a dozen runners on base!) Plenty of highlights though:

* Lindsay and Ram were still in volleyball mode and combined on a sweet tip catch. Oh my goodness!
* First double play of the year -- jackpot for Allie!
* Jared had a sweet diving play kind of like this, but it was in the field. He was also perfect at the plate.
* Lisa was also 2-for-2 and scored a run.
* Angie attended one of the greatest endings to a season in the history of baseball all while getting the best US Weekly dish
* Chad made it home on his bike after the rain hit
* RBIs for Caitlyn, Allie and Megan. Nice work ladies!

Week 3 Preview: Win streak?

Hi everyone,

We play at 7:20 at Riverside this Wednesday. We are taking on The Pistachios, who are 0-1-1. I don't think we have ever played them and have nothing clever to say otherwise. Hope to see you there.

Week 2 Recap: Walk-off!

The celebration ensues after a walk-off 3-2 win for Blue on Wednesday night.

Well, our second game was truly a wild ride of comebacks, blown leads and more comebacks but it ended the right way: a win (which we all know is what kickball is all about).

The rain has the book a little soaked, but here are some highlights I can remember/decipher:

Our first play on defense we had a small collision, but Lindsay still got a sick out. The Brew Crew did still score a run in the first, but the defense settled in from there included three (maybe more outfield assists from Jared!). Unfortunately, the offense could not get going, as we did not even get a hit until Jared led off the third inning with a single.

The fourth inning though was a blue break through! Allie and Andrew got back-to-back hits then Becca moved them over to second and third to set up a great bunt by Angie which had them so flustered they made a throwing error and we took a 2-1 lead.

After even more sick lockdown defense we took our lead into the seventh, but they managed to plate a run for a tie.

That was no trouble though because we had the hammer (esoteric baseball turn for "last-ups")!

Becca had a sick kick over their guys trying to play the bunt, then moved from first to third on Angie's gem. That set up a sac fly chance for Chad, but he just drilled it through the left side of the infield for the game winner!

After that the whole team went to Don't Know and watched the Orioles beat the Red Sox! Hooray!

Another Game 2 Preview: Rivalry Rekindled

Based on the current forecast, it does not seem too likely that we will play tonight, but then again I thought the same thing about softball games on Tuesday and it turned out to be a beautiful night so who knows?

Should we get to play, we will take on our old rivals the Brew Crew, who haven't faced in about two years since we all hung out at Taps that one time. We are 1-1 life time against them, including a game in which I permanently scarred my hip sliding at Riverside (I'll show it for $1 a peek!)

Since we last met, their guys have apparently started a semi-successful racing team, while the girls have begun a street-team marketing club on the side for Coffee Mate. Let's hope all this adrenaline and caffeine does not give them super strength.

Game 2 Preview: Break that Tie

We are scheduled to play at 7:20 at Riverside this Wednesday against Drunk Again and Looking to Score.

Last year we led against them almost the whole game before allowing a late run to score and finishing with a 4-4 tie.

This time I'm sure we will have it though. And look for a new pitcher! Exciting!

Game 1 Recap: A great first inning

Dejected WJBO players answer media questions after the loss.

The first week of kickball had several great moments, even if one of them wasn't a cooler-dumping in honor of victory. At least we did our best to empty the cooler of the full beers inside.

Highlights of the 9-3 loss are below.

Play of the day: Chad made an awesome catch off a deflected ball for a big out. It looked something like this.

Streak alive: Hilary was the birthday girl and led off the game with a single to keep her consecutive games reaching base streak alive. She was not as impressed with the streak after the game, but we still went to Don't Know afterward to celebrate the occasion.

Fast start: Hilary, Becca and Jim all reached base to start the game before Chad kicked a bases-clearing triple. 3-0 lead after the first inning. Unfortunately, our score kind of looked like the Orioles the rest of the night.

Bases jammed: We came close to scoring several times but left two runners on twice and the bases loaded in two other innings. So frustrating.

Dynamite Debut: Lisa went a perfect three-for-three at the plate in her first game in blue. Becca also had a perfect night at the plate, going four-for-four. A small town in Delaware has renamed itself in honor of the performances.

Classic closer: Jim did another Charlie Sheen impression, pitching a perfect seventh inning out of the bullpen. Our fashionista fans went wild.

No coaching changes: Despite the lack of offense, head coach Nate made it clear assistant coach Allie will be around as long as he is. Base coach jobs remain open though.

Soooo close

It was a great effort this past Wednesday as we almost came away with a pair of wins, but instead we'll have to settle for an 0-1-1 mark.

Like I said, a couple of close plays didn't go our way, but hopefully this past week gives us confidence that we can win (like the Caps, go Caps!).

Some quick individual highlights:
*Jim had three straight hits to start the first game and scored a run; he also made an excellent defensive coordinator

* Chad had a sweet right field corner shot for a home run and also three doubles. He also took part of that sweet bouncing assist to Hilary and then to Jim to get that guy thrown out (FOR GOOD)

* Becca had seven hits in eight at bats and scored three runs. Very productive.

* Matt knocked in three runs

* Andrew also had three RKIs in the middle of the order

* Angie had five hits and also recorded three outs in one inning on defense

* Allie had three hits and almost scored once

* Nate had a pair of hits and an RBI and almost had a bases-clearing hit. Almost

* Hilary also had a pair of hits

* Megan took over the team lead in walks and also had three hits.

Game 2 Preview: Hey, eight other teams lost in the crap league

This week we take on one of the four teams named Drunk Again and Looking Score, and fortunately it's the one that also lost two weeks ago. Game time is 7:20 this week so I'm not planning on doing any pre-game necessarily so we will plan to meet up at the field. We are back at our favorite field (Riverside #1 near Wells Street) so extra bonus! See everyone there.

Nate

Umm... maybe we need to bring back those defense signs

Ok, so that was a bad first game. We somehow gave up 18 runs without many balls even making it out of the infield. But I'll try to switch people around less, chant "defense" extra loud and we will hope we have all of our errors out of us.

The offense started great -- 3 of the first four batters scored. Then we unfortunately stopped scoring. Highlights:
* Chad had the first hit and first run of the year
* Andrew was 2 for 2 and scored
* Becca had a sac RBI and a hit
* Jim had a hit and scored a run
* Angie had a sac rbi and had a real nice kick it was just at the center fielder
* Ron had a single and rbi
* Katie had two hits with two outs

There were some other hits and stuff in there, but that's all I can tell from the book for sure. There will definitely be more highlights in weeks ahead.

Opening Day: Second Try

Hey everyone,

Welcome back to another season! Don't worry about last week's rainout, we are still playing the first game of the season (6:30 start time, if it doesn't rain again).

The league organizers are stressing this year that start time is the actual time they will start and that they will be asessing forfeits so please do your best to be prompt if you can. I should make it on time as long as this doesn't happen to me at work.

We are playing at our favorite Riverside field with our favorite umpire against Where My Pitches At? This is actually a different Where My Pitches At than the one we've played in our epic 2-1 affairs the past few season.

Since we've never played them before I don't have too much to say, so instead of scouting this week why not just watch videos of kittens.

See you Wednesday,
Nate
