It's hard to know where to start in talking about last week's wild win. With Megan's gritty performance behind the plate with a broken leg? Mark's mad munting skills? How about Michael "getting in Angie's pants"?
I guess I'll start at the end, when we scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh for walk-off 13-12 win over the Electric Mayhem capped by one of the wildest plays I've ever seen.
We entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 12-9 and slightly reeling having squandered an early 5-0 lead. Nonetheless we kept our heads up. Nate led off the inning with a double to left field and Allie bunted on safely. The comeback bid nearly stalled as we got down to our final out, but Andrew came up with a clutch single to score Nate and cut the lead to 12-10 and put the tying run on base.
That brought Angie to the plate, who laid down a brilliant bunt and sprinted down the line to force a quick throw. The defender made a quick throw indeed -- and it went over the first basewoman and all the way into right field. Angie trucked around the bases not even hearing the team screaming from the bench to score. The right fielder picked up the ball but Angie saw third base coach Mike pointing to home. She turned the corner, keenly aware of been thrown out with the ball on the way to the plate just an inning before, but this time she raced across the plate ahead of the throw where she was mobbed by the team in victory.
There were plenty of great moments for everyone though, as we owe special thanks to Chandra and Megan for filling in so we had nine.
Mark led off for us and got things started with his first of two munt singles before scoring the first of two runs in our big first inning.
Andrew had a great day at the plate, going 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored and an RBI. His five runs generated was more than a third of our offense!
Even before getting the game winner, Angie was red hot at the plate, going 5 for 5 with bunt hits, a triple, another single and four total runs knocked in!
Seal contributed to the win at both the mound and the plate, earning the win and helping the cause with a pair of RB-I's, including plating the game's first run.
Behind Seal's pitching performance was Mike's defense at shortstop, where he made several catches despite having to play in his work socks and a pair of black capri pants he had to borrow from Angie 'cause he forgot a change of clothes. His offense was also appreciated as he went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Chandra was a game contributor as she precision bunted her way on base three times (I think she's holding weekly clinics if anyone is interested in learning her craft). The feat was especially impressive because Nate mispronounced her name so many times it was pretty good that she made it up to bat on time at all.
Coach Nate also broke out of a bit of slump with a pair of hits and runs, including a seventh-inning double.
Nate was not the only hot bat from the west of Fort Ave. though. Allie singled in a pair of runs in the firt before bunting safely and scoring in our winning seventh inning rally. That stretched her consecutive games scoring streak to three!
Three cheers for Megan, who suited up to play despite having a stress fracture in her leg so we wouldn't have to take an automatic out or play short in the field. Although she was couldn't kick or run due to her injury, she did a hell of a job working the pitch count and psyching out the defense with her keen eye.
